I painted three views of girls braiding their hair, reflected in the window from different angles. The scenery outside of the window overlaps with the girls’ reflections in the window. I also made a conscious effort to overlap the viewer where the viewer stands with the reflection of the girls in the window pane.

AMANE ISHII

Born in Osaka, Japan in 1994, Amane Ishii graduated from the Kyoto City University of Arts with a master's degree in painting. While placing importance on "the gaze," she paints with motifs that have the potential to expand into different worlds. Her paintings convey a sense of expansion of multi-layered space and overlapping of time. Recent solo exhibitions include "Where Are You Going" (Ginza Tsutaya, Tokyo, 2023), "Reflecting Unseen Angels" (TAKU SOMETANI GALLERY, Tokyo, 2023), "warp" (biscuit gallery, Tokyo, 2022), and "Reliance on Sight" (imura art gallery, Kyoto, 2021). Group exhibitions include "BEING AND TIME" (Powerlong Art Center, Shanghai, 2022), "Words of Color - Amane Ishii, Eriko Kubo, Kanna Takase, Sumire Funakoshi" (Shinjuku Takashimaya 10th Floor Art Gallery, Tokyo, 2022), and "How to see Paintings - reprise" (√K Contemporary, Tokyo, 2021)
